I am Harshika Jain, a psychologist offering counselling services while also being actively involved in academic and research work. My work focuses on understanding emotional experiences, relationships, and the ways people cope with mental health concerns in today’s fast-changing world.
Through counselling, I support individuals who are facing emotional stress, relationship difficulties, or personal challenges. Alongside therapeutic work, I also conduct purpose-specific mental fitness assessments for legal, performance, and institutional requirements, including certifications related to decision-making capacity and child artist readiness.
At the same time, my ongoing involvement in academic learning and research helps me stay updated with current psychological knowledge, allowing me to bring a thoughtful, evidence-informed approach to both counselling and psychological evaluation.
My work in psychology has developed through a combination of academic training and hands-on experience, each shaping the way I understand mental health and human behaviour. I have always been drawn to psychology not just as a field of study, but as a way of understanding emotions, relationships, and the different situations in which people experience stress, change, growth, and resilience.
I began my academic journey with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The D.G. Ruparel College of Arts, Commerce and Science, where I built a strong foundation in psychological concepts and developed an early interest in emotional experiences and relationship patterns. During this time, I also gained practical exposure through internships and community-based work, which helped me connect psychological theory with real-life situations.
I went on to complete my Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of Dundee, Scotland, where my training focused on psychological theory, research methods, and ethical practice. Alongside my studies, I worked in community mental health as a Mental Health and Wellbeing Worker with Penumbra, supporting individuals experiencing emotional distress while also assisting with practical challenges such as housing, financial support, and daily functioning. This experience strengthened my understanding of person-centred, recovery-focused care and the importance of dignity, independence, and collaboration in mental health work.
My professional training has also included internships in occupational rehabilitation and psychological assessment, including work with APM, where I conducted functional capacity evaluations, ergonomic assessments, and psychosocial risk screenings. I also received assessment training with PsychoShiksha in India. Earlier experiences in forensic psychology, career counselling, and inclusive education further expanded my understanding of how psychological principles apply across different settings and populations.
I am currently pursuing my PhD at NMIMS (Deemed-to-be) University, with research interests focused on relationships, emotional experiences, and contemporary mental health concerns, including the impact of digital environments and social media. Alongside my doctoral work, I also serve as Faculty at NMIMS, teaching subjects such as Social Psychology, School and Educational Psychology, Industrial/Organisational Psychology, Entrepreneurship, and Communication Skills. Teaching allows me to stay closely connected with psychological theory while helping students apply their learning to real-world contexts.
In addition to my academic work, I am the Founder and Psychologist at Redefine Mind Health in Mumbai, where I provide individual and group counselling for concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, career stress, and substance use. I also conduct career assessments and facilitate psychology-based corporate workshops focused on workplace mental health, emotional well-being, communication, and resilience. Running a private practice allows me to bring together research, teaching, and applied work while offering evidence-informed and personalised support to clients.
Across these experiences, my approach to psychology is guided by empathy, ethical responsibility, and respect for each person’s unique context. Whether I am working in counselling, teaching, research, or organisational settings, my focus is on creating thoughtful, supportive spaces that acknowledge both psychological knowledge and the lived realities of the people I work with.
I see counselling as a collaborative and supportive process. My approach focuses on empathy, respect, and psychological understanding, with the aim of creating a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and concerns.
Instead of offering quick fixes, I work with clients to explore their emotions, patterns, and life experiences at a pace that feels right for them. Each counselling process is shaped around the person’s unique situation, needs, and goals, helping them develop greater awareness, clarity, and emotional well-being.
My work is guided by a strong commitment to ethical and responsible practice. I value each individual’s autonomy, personal experiences, and unique perspective, and aim to create a counselling space that respects their voice and choices.
I approach my work using current psychological knowledge and research, while also recognising the importance of ongoing learning, self-reflection, and professional development. I believe that meaningful psychological work requires care, humility, and a continuous commitment to growth: both personally and professionally.
I work primarily with adults and young adults who are seeking psychological support for emotional, relational, and personal concerns. Many individuals who reach out are going through periods of stress, emotional difficulty, or important life transitions and are looking for a safe space to better understand their experiences.
I commonly work with individuals who:
Are facing relationship or interpersonal difficulties
Feel emotionally distressed, overwhelmed, or under ongoing stress
Experience anxiety, overthinking, or persistent worry
Struggle with self-esteem, confidence, or identity concerns
Are navigating life transitions, uncertainty, or personal challenges
Find social media or digital interactions affecting their emotional well-being
Want a reflective space to understand their thoughts, emotions, and patterns
Want to seek clarity on their career paths
My counselling approach is best suited for individuals who are open to a collaborative and reflective process, and who are seeking thoughtful, ethical psychological support that moves at a pace comfortable for them.
